The Game Makers Apprentice and Game Maker Software AWESOME!

Hi Guys,

What a few weeks it has been for me I cannot believe the amount of stuff that has happened and you probably wouldn't either so I will just stick to letting you know what I have been up to in the games world.

Since getting the book "The Game Makers Apprentice" it has opened my eyes to creating more than just first person shooters which I have played pretty much religiously for the past about 15 years, and have learned to like other types of games like platformers and puzzle games. I definitely miss the gameplay games such as Mario on the original NES or SNES consoles had before all the games turned to 3D.

2D games are still very addictive and fun to play whether on a console or on the PC. So I have turned my attention to completing this book in the next few weeks and listing each project as I go along and show you it is possible with a little thought to make very easily simple yet effective games everyone will want to play with the Game Maker software which comes with this book. I highly recommend it.

Visit Techville.co.uk for screenshots of the first game you make in the book form Chapter 1. If you had an afternoon free you could make this game very easily within about an hour, depending on how fast you can read . You can download the game below and try it out first hand how spending very little time can produce a game that is very playable and addictive, which also boasts some very cool graphics for a 2D game.

DOWNLOAD EVIL CLUTCHES HERE TO TRY IT OUT

Once you try out the game you will probably get an idea of the power or what can be achieved using the Game Maker software. The next chapter in the book is to make an asteroids style game which I am really looking forward to for sure as its one of my favourite classic games. I will post it up for you to play and see how diverse the games you can make, can be. Hopefully this will inspire other people interested in this software and get them to try it out for themselves.

You can buy the book here on Amazon:

"Serial Justice" 1 player being made in FPSC X10

The website has been updated again to keep the content fresh and constant. Me and my friend Brian are working on a game together right now which is a one player game this time and not a multiplayer level.

Its about a detective, who you play the role of, who is on the hunt for a serial killer by following his trail of victims that ultimately leads you to find out who the person is and why he is doing it etc. There are clues along the way along with each victim and this game will make use of the Trigger Zones within the First Person Shooter Creator program which will trigger a cut scene or full motion video sequence allowing you to talk to people in the game that way and gather evidence.

Here is a short video shown below I uploaded to youtube to show you the start of the first level where you are called to to examine the first body. The picture quality isn't the greatest as its recorded straight off the graphics card. In the actual game it is a lot lighter and you can see fine in it. The police officers are moving in this video by setting waypoints along the map and changing their scripts to the right one.

Check it out below and see what you think. My friend Brian made the models for this game and is doing so as we go along and will be selling them as a pack if anyones interested.

Brian has also created a Fire Engine which will be included later in the game at some point. I have started to finish off the first stage of the intro for the game which is a very first short level. It has taken me a while to iron out some bugs that have appeared in FPSC X10 which downloaded and installed an update automatically for me, only to turn my paid copy of FPSC into a free evaluation copy? I know it baffled me too LOL.

Not to worry after overcoming that obstacle (another countless one) I will continue to try and make a 1 player game yet with this game creator even if it takes me till the day I die I will try and do it . Thanks.

Call of duty style map up the left lol

Hi guys,

After getting my computer up and running again I was planning to make a cool map based on the Call Of Duty 4 Map "Backlot" however with some issues with the model packs I have, it appears that some errors...or should I say a lot of errors, have started to appear when testing it online. So I have started on a new map called "Perfection".

This map is based on what was on the other night on ITV4 one of my favourite films of all time was on "Demolition Man" where everyone lives in perfect harmony with each other. The bit that sparked my imagination is the part where the bad guy Wesley Snipes plays (Simon Pheonix) visits the museum to get a gun.

This is mimicking that scenario where everywhere outside people get on with their lives without fear of crime or hostility toward one another. One gang however that wants to take advantage of the soft approach of everyone in this harmonious future for their own financial gain, plan to take the city of LA over and hold it to ransom with terror and crime.

One secret police force to deal with such an emergency exists and if the peace is broken anywhere in the city of LA, a team of highly trained special operatives from the LAPD SWAT team department respond to such emergencies and have the authority to silence them in any way necesary.

Check out some of the pics below as to what it will sort of look like. The year is 2052, and the place is a museum with weapons etc on display and I will also have posters up along the walls to give history lessons etc about guns in the 20th Century and how they were used etc. Hope you like the look of it.

After this map is made, I will be going back to creating around another 10 songs for my music collection, before coming back to making more multiplayer games.

Speak soon guys,

Dell XPS Risen from the dead....almost :)

Hi guys,

Well the Dell XPS computer is in the process of being rebuilt totally from scratch from the inside out which is going to cost around £400 big ones! But I will be glad to get it back and for sure this time I will be buying a surge protector for it as it seems a power surge in the wiring in my house or through the power supply inside the machine has totally fried everything but the hard drives and the actual power supply unit itself.

This time I am getting every component replaced with the newest available so I am getting a quad core processor again but 2 models up from the last one and faster, dual 9600 Nvidia graphics cards instead of the Dual 8800GT's I previously had in it, 2GB more RAM to bring it up to 4GB and sound cad etc. Basically a high spec new PC but built in the XPS case.

I cannot wait to get it back as the Gamecreators are constantly releasing more model packs for the FPS Creator and I cannot get them yet.....well I can however I won't be able to use them until I get my powerhouse PC back for FPSC X10. Fingers crossed it will be start of next week it is built and I can get creating again as I am getting withdrawal symptoms from using it lol.

Speak soon guys,

New Guest Map On the site and Possible Webring For Computer Gamers

  • Mood:

Hi guys,

I have placed a guest map on my website which allows you to place where abouts in cyberspace you have come from. It has a world map and allows you to leave a message along with your name and link to a website if you have one which will help generate traffic to it for FREE.

I am also thinking of creating a web ring to link together computer game and music related website which is also free to signup to. Check out the guest map just under the "News" section on my site to see it in action.

Thanks.

FPS Creator used to create a possible comic strip?

  • Mood:

Hmmmmm ok I recently got Photoshop CS4 which I have been tinkering around with and found a very cool filter that you can place on images which creates those classic brush stroke style old comics you used to get in the 80's and early 90's and I have to say, it looks totally awesome.

I was experimenting using some pics of myself I took and others for colour variation and unless you knew what the original photo was it looks like a scanned pic of a drawing someone took all with 1 click of the mouse. Here is a sample I will include below, this is the before image of the gorgeous and most amazing woman on the planet....gwen stefani:

and here is the after image:

Different methods produce different results but this is an example not a very good one but the more colour in a picture and darker in the backgrounder, lighters in the front, produces some amazing results. I think I will be playing around with some screenies and see if I can make a sotry up just making sketches of screenies I already have on my laptop.

Once my computer is fixed and I can access FPS Creator X10 agani I should be in business and make some short stories for my website.

Keep an eye out its just an idea but if its do-able then I will give it a shot and see how it comes out

Dell XPS has broke itself lol

  • Mood:

Hi guys,

I am so gutted because the Dell XPS that I create my multiplayer levels on has gone capoot and its only 4 months out of warranty and under a year and a half old. Not a happy chappy today however I have left it in to be fixed but it could take up to 2 weeks to repair it and find out whats wrong with it etc etc.

So the level I had just about finished "The Heist" will have to be redone again when it comes back. I thought I should update the page with something to keep you occupied until it comes back, so I included a video about the history of computer games below to keep ya entertained and I will include some more as the days count down till I get my system back.

The good news is my older PC is still working which has all of my Ejay products and FL studio programs on it and I could try and create another song to add to the tunes section as it has been a while since I last created one (about 3 months ago).

Free Penpal section coming soon! 100% FREE + site changes

  • Mood:

Hi guys,

I might be remaking the website from scratch and not using a template as it will be a lot easier to read and more spacious than the current template being used. When you come to the homepage, I will have different icons for each of the different sections of the site like one section for downloading the music I have made, one for the games I have made etc.

As this post is titled, I will also be adding a penpal section which is 100% free to contact people on. All that will be required is a simple form to be filled out and thats it. The options you will be able to choose to help match you for instance or catch someones eye is interests like romance, sports, computers etc and each user will be put into a country category first so a person logs on to search for a person and selects the country they are interested in first. Then it breaks each country down into the interests which will be listed.

There will also be the ability to upload an image or link to a video (preferably youtube) of themselves introducing themselves.

Check it out and keep an eye out over the next day or two for it.

Thanks.

New Multiplayer Map Being Made, "Cinema Of Horror"

  • Mood:

Hi guys,

I have been busy with courses over the past week and with holidays etc cause of 11th and 12th of July as you may not know is a Holiday in Northern Ireland, but it has been all work with me and had no time for rest on keeping up to date and catching up with my games design course and CIW Website Design Manager course.

I am taking some hours here and there to come back to the multiplayer games as I find it much more quicker to make the multiplayer levels than it does to create the music tracks which take a day or two and lots of fiddling about.

The next map which should be completed by Saturday night is called "Cinema Of Horror" where I am trying to create a cinema kind of feel to the level however some may think its more of a conference room but ah what the hey I couldnt get the right seating models for the map or the right stairs with lights on them etc like a real cinema has. Hopefully the level I create will do itself justice as there will be on screen you can go into where there is blood smears up the walls and bodies impaled on spikes etc. There will be a lobby area as well which will use the model packs I have bought which contain bubble gum machines and different vending machines etc and appliances.

Keep an eye out and I will upload and post it as soon as it is finished. Cheers.

New Multiplayer Map "The Tomb" FREE 4 Player Level to download

  • Mood:

Sorry for the delay in getting the map posted I have been talking about this week. I had to babysit for 4 days which meant that none of my courses or my website could be updated, or any new content created.

However tonight I took the liberty of relaxing from work and splash out on X10 again now I have all 28 model packs I feel like I could sit all day and churn out map after map as there's so much variety to mix and match with now.

The new map is called "The Tomb" and I have included a link to the youtube video below. I have included the new guns that I had purchased in the new model packs and they do really pack a hell of a punch if you ask me.

I will be doing some of my courses tonight however tomorrow for sure as my usual five a side footy match is cancelled I will be updating the FPSC Bible I am working on with about another 4 or 5 tutorials and starting to add to the tips section as well.

New Multiplayer Club Forming For Levels & Games

  • Mood:

I have got a lot of content from the gamescreators model packs for FPSC X9 and X10 and will be making a lot more multiplayer games shortly. I will one day if I have time from my studying and courses I am doing at home at present make a one player one day, however even on my XBOX 360 multiplayer games are my favourite.

The multiplayer club I am forming will be a meeting point for people who are looking for other players apart from their mates to play the levels I create online. I will also have another tutorial tomorrow for the book I am creating which shows us how to edit things in the scripts contained in the games I build which can also help fix bugs in the level which will save redownloading the entire level again, as you can edit it and fix it in code very easily

Keep an eye out tomorrow night when I will upload another level with all the new guns etc and models I have to make a cracker multiplayer level. If you want to join the multiplayer club, I will put a form on my website shortly on www.techville.co.uk and you can put your username and IP address in if your hosting a game so others can join you....the page will probably be password protected because of IP addresses if they are listed on my site and I will only give out the passwords etc if you signup to join.

Check my homepage to see updates throughout the week.

Cheers

Huge Content Boost Coming - Buying 22 Model Packs for FPS Creator

  • Mood:

Tonight before heading to bed, I thought I would purchase all the model packs on the game creator sites just as a spur of the moment kinda thing. About 2 years ago or more I bought up to model pack 6 and haven't purchased any others since then, as I haven't had the dosh, however tonight I whipped out the credit card and said stuff it! lol

So right now I am adding them to my cart and hopefully with the vast amount of media that will be available to me when it is all downloaded, I can make a corker of a 1 player game with the models and media in them. While working on the games and more multiplayer levels, I will be adding to the book I am making more tutorials on how to use the FPSC creator software and talking about game design, lighting techniques and the like etc.

Hopefully the model packs all work in FPSC X10 as up to model pack 6 I have works fine so far. So if it all goes well expect to see some amazing one player and multiplaer levels emerging over the next few weeks with great speed. I won't waste no time in creating them either cause once I get started I can never stop

I will let you know when my order has been processed and authorized for download I cannot wait 22 extra model packs here I come

Professional Gaming Clan Creation (BFS) Brute Force Squad

  • Mood:

Hi guys,

Do you like computer games? Do you have Xbox live or a PC you love to play online games on? Are you quite competitive when it comes to winning? Do you also like to have fun while playing online with buddies and making new friends?

If you answer yes to all the above questions, then you are a good candidate for the BFS Clan! I play lots of games online on the Xbox 360 and PC. I currently have 55 games on the 360 and tons of PC games. I love having fun playing games but also like to add a bit of competitiveness to it, to give playing others that extra umph! factor.

I want to create a professional gaming clan that could take part in onlin tournaments or even ones locally in their home towns and cities all over the world and help create an online community that brings gamers together and meet people who share similar interests to themselves and make new friends in the process.

Anyone can apply to join the clan however there will be rules in place to help keep it a friendly place and anyone breaking the rules or causing anyone any grief will be removed from the website section I will be creating on Techville.co.uk and their IP banend from joining ever again.

There will be a large list of games available to join the clan and play on as I say I have a vast collection and will start with listing those games first. They are all top and latest titles. Clan matches or days, dates and times when its a good time to meet online for ranked or private matches will be listed by me based on suggestions from others in the clans and depending on al lthe time zones the clan members will be in.

If anyone would like to take part in pro graming tournaments to win prizes etc in the future, I would also like to get to know these people online and in MSN messenger etc to create a team and play for either money prizes in places anywhere in the world locally or internationally.

I will be creating the clan website which will be listing clan rules and guidelines but also adding lots of other features, such as clan members listings, personal profiles of those members which will include their fav games and least fav games, the games they own and for which format etc, Xbox gamercard integration into the site along with Xbox live leaderboards for each member of the clan who plays on Xbox live plus much more.

I will be updating you on the progress of these things as I go along so keep an eye out on the site or on this blog.

Thanks.

FPSC Bible (First Person Shooter Creator Tutorial Book) Being Created

  • Mood:

Hi guys,

I am also working on a FPSC X9 and X10 tutorial guide book which I will be hopefully publising as a physical book sometime, when I get enough material and tutorials made for it, and selling it on my website via cafepress.co.uk.

If you use the program and have any hints or tips you would like to include in it, you will be given full credit for each of the hints, tips or tutorials you make yourself and a link to your website (if you have one) as a thank you for your contribution.

Any money I make will go back into buying the model packs and software from thegamecreators.com to make more one player games and multiplayer levels available for FREE to all people out there on the net.

Here is 2 sample tutorials already made in PDF format for the book. The book however will be in all black and white, including photos, and will help people learn on the move about the program,as not everyone can be in front of their PC all the time.

Tutorial 1: "Making enemies appear dead at the start of a game" http://www.techville.co.uk/fpscbible.pdf

Tutorial 2: "1 Player and multiplayer Skybox Problems" http://www.techville.co.uk/skyboxtut.pdf

Thanks for your help.

New Multiplayer Map Created "War" (4 Player)

  • Mood:

Hi guys,

I uploaded and created a new map called "War" to download for free for everyone to play.

I have used again the World War 2 models in the packs that already came with FPSC X9 and X10 just to show that good levels can be made with the stock models they give you with the package. Of course I have up to model pack 6 and they are included in my other levels which are all free to download in the Techville Games Section available at:

http://www.techville.co.uk/survival.html

Hopefully when I have some extra money available I will be buying all content created by thegamecreators.com up to model pack 26 and really add a lot of new levels and variety to my games .

Dont forget to check out all my tunes I have created in MP3 format and .OGG which are all free to use in your own games you create, videos or movies.

Working on another level at present, another space styl shooter level so keep an eye out for them soon.

Thanks,

Awesome FREE Game Maker from Sourceforge called "Construct"

  • Mood:

Hey guys,

Here is a class tool I downloaded the other night and messed about with. Of course I am not a genius in it but I made a top down shooter in one hoour 30 mins after watching the below guys videos, up to video 9.

Check it out its open source and totally free to use and share the games etc out when you make them. Download it at http://www.scirra.com then load up the videos and try them out its amazingly fun.

If you have any tips on making other types of games with it let me know. There is also a platformer tutorial included on the website you can download, but it says its for more advanced users, Start with the top down shooter first to get to grips with it.

If I make a game on my own I will be posting it on my website in the games directory which everyon I think knows now anyway but its http://www.techville.co.uk/survival.html
